    strasburg (SP)

shut up all the critics and lived up to the hype tonight in his first start, think the stats were 14 strike outs no walks not sure of the rest but it was a 5-2 win for the nationals.

7 innings, 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 14 K's, no walks and the win of course. I think he broke the club strikeout record and was one K away from the rookie debut record. Not bad.

    This.

He was impressive, but just like when Young hit the homer off of him after making an adjustment at the plate, all MLB caliber hitters will start getting scouting reports on him, they'll start seeing him more and more as the sample size gets bigger...and they will hit him. It's up to him to continue to learn how to combine his stuff w/pitching strategy. If/when he does that, he'll be even more dominant than he was last night.

Yeah I mean he wasn't even facing MLB caliber hitters. He was facing Pirates caliber hitters.

I think he has a very promising career though. Although last year Tony Gwynn even said he thought Strasburg had a lot of room to develop and wasn't completely ready yet.

    Re: strasburg (SP)

I recorded the game just to see all the hype and he did impress in his first career start. He got behind a lot of hitters the first 3 innings and still did not give up a walk. He was 2-0, 3-0, and 3-1 on many hitters during that stretch and battled back, that may be the most impressive part of his outing.

He hit 100 on the gun a few times, his 4 seamer was consistently 97-100, his 2 seamer was 94-97, his sinker was 92-96, his changeup was 89-91, and his curveball was 79-83 all night. 20 mph difference in curve to fastball. And his curve is not a loligag 12-6 fall off the table slow breaking ball. It has bite and is NASTY. Overall I was very impressed with his outing. At one point he struck out 6-7 in a row thru the first 3 innings.

BUT, as a few have said, these are major league hitters and it will take them 2-3 AB's against him to get a feel for all his pitches. After that he will come down to earth a little but still could be just as dominant as Ubaldo Jiminez this year, very similar styles.
